Koffiefontein mine
Koffiefontein is the largest kimberlite diamond mine in the world by average value per carat. Discovered in 1870, the underground mine is situated 110km south-east of Kimberley in the Free State province of South Africa. Reserves/Resources: The mine holds 17.66mt of proven and 18.48mt of probable reserves." Products: The mine produces high-value diamonds, including white diamonds sized between five to 30 carats. In 2009, the mine produced 52,089 carats graded at 6.6cpht, a reduction from the 89,622 carats production achieved in 2008. Delays in producing from new sections on level 49 and 52 resulted in the decline. Production at the mine was 948,000t a year. Venetia is a open-pit diamond mining.It was the first diamond mine to achieve ISO 9002 quality management certification.It is South Africa's largest producer of diamonds. It is situated close to the South African town of Alldays in the Limpopo province and is located within the 360 km² Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve. The Williamson diamond mine is a famous large open pit mine currently about 90 meters (300 ft) deep.It is the world’s largest economic kimberlite by surface area at 146 hectares in size. It is a historic source of high value Type II diamonds and fancy pinks.It is located about 160 kilometers (99 mi) south of the town of Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. | Crater of Diamonds State Park, Arkansas
Crater of Diamonds State Park is a 911-acre (369 ha) Arkansas state park in Pike County, Arkansas in the United States. The park features a 37.5 acres (15.2 ha) plowed field, the world's only diamond-bearing site accessible to the public. Crater of Diamonds State Park is situated over an eroded lamproite volcanic pipe. The park is open to the public and, for a small fee, rockhounds and visitors can dig for diamonds and other gemstones. Park visitors find more than 600 diamonds each year of all colors and grades.Over 29,000 diamonds have been found in the crater since it became a state park. | Kelsey Lake Diamond Mine
At present, there are no commercial diamond mines operating in the United States. The only mine that has ever operated commercially was the Kelsey Lake Diamond Mine.Kelsey Lake Diamond Mine is a defunct diamond mine in Colorado, USA. It is located in the State Line Kimberlite District, near the Wyoming border, and consists of nine kimberlite volcanic pipes, of which two were open pit mined.The mine ceased operations in 2001. Reserves/Resources: Of the nine volcanic pipes found, three were reported to contain diamonds, and two (KL-1 and KL-2) were mined. These two pipes are each approximately 10.5 acres (4.2 ha) in area, are at least 350 feet (110 m) deep, and are situated 0.5 miles (0.80 km) apart.When McKenzie Bay first acquired the mine, they estimated with their equipment improvements that they could recover 3.5 cpht from the ore. They also estimated that each of the two pipes being mined had about 340,000 carats worth of gems and could be profitably mined for about 10 years. Products: The mine ran at half-capacity and produced almost 12,000 carats in 1996 and 9,000 carats in 1997. Owner: Kelsey Lake was opened as a commercial diamond mine by Redaurum Limited in 1996.
